Who We Are
The Hippocampus School has a history of over 30 years, is nation's largest riding school and one of the best equipped equine centers and more crowded in the region. Under the direction of Dr. Gerardo Minuzzi, it has worked in the most prestigious clubs in Argentina, such as the Argentine Jockey Club (1992-2002, 2014-present), GEBA (1983-1990, 1994-1997 and 2005 horse riding present), San Isidro Jockey Club (1995-present), St. George College of Quilmes (1990-1995) and CLUB HIPICO BUENOS AIRES.
In the latter, the school provides its services since it reopened in 2001 to the present. Dr. Minuzzi has advised countless riding schools within the country and numerous country clubs in the province of Buenos Aires such as San Diego CC, Tortuguitas CC, CC Náutico de Escobar, Banco Provincia DC, DC Boca Raton, among many others.
We proudly emphasize that we have taught riding more than 20 thousand students, many of whom have taken their first steps in our school and today are riding professionals. We run over 400 horses and ponies scattered in different riding schools around the country. They are selected on rigorous methods, taking into account the purpose for which they will be used. For a horse to be incorporated into the school it needs to have well-defined physical and psychological characteristics. They must pass tests for balance, workability, permeability to aid and retention. Just then, the animal is subjected to strict medical examination by a veterinary professional.
The Escuela Hipocampo of Buenos Aires has 30 horses and 10 ponies to teach more than 350 students of different levels and ages. Many of these horses are selected for the area of Equine therapy, also known as Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT) in the school.
The equine therapy area of the school was created over 15 years ago, initially as a recreational service, coordinated today by Dr.Veronica Settepassi. She has an excellent team of professionals (doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, teachers riding). Today we serve over 100 patients (only the headquarters of the Equestrian Club Buenos Aires) with both psychic and physical disabilities.
Our philosophy is to provide service of equine therapy to children and adolescents with different capacities, as well as victims of accidents, behavioral problems and / or learning, so that they can have access to the benefits of rehabilitation using horse, hereby supporting his best comprehensive development as human beings and their integration and adaptation to society; with a vision of social welfare, making the service accessible to low-income people.
The Equestrian Center for Rehabilitation of Escuela Hipocampo has guiding principles of non-discrimination to any person because of race, creed, nationality, or social status and supports people with greater needs and fewer resources to the best of our ability, as well as helping to better understand the needs and intrinsic value of people with disabilities and other sectors of society, to promote better relations between people suffering from disabilities and those that do not.
